“The work of film-maker Jean-Marie Téno focuses on the post-colonial heritage of African societies, particularly his native Cameroon. Shifting between feature film and documentary formats, the focus of his ongoing concern to disclose the problems inherent in the colonial heritage in Africa remains the same. As one reviewer put it, Téno’s cinema ‘constructs the African landscape as a place of loss and the African subject as divided between what is and what never was.’”
