“Since the early 1990s, Pierre Huyghe has been interested in the discrepancies between the real and its representation, primarily in modern entertainment industry media. In his work Huyghe explores the question of how to counteract the entertainment industry’s appropriation of an individual’s own image. To this end, he has developed a reappropriation strategy that employs and yet undermines Hollywood’s technology and principles of utilization. Huyghe does not simply seek to replace one medium or genre (such as the fictional) with another (the documentary, for instance), instead, he is more concerned with marking the spaces and times that appear between different media and genres, between sound and image, between two pictures in a series, or between a site and its media representation. He wants to make it clear that these are particular sites where critique and reappropriation can begin.”
