For years before his death, London’s October Gallery emerged as a committed advocate for Aubrey Williams’ work. This advocacy and commitment has continued in the decades following the Guyana-born artist’s death in 1990. Typical in this regard was the exhibition Aubrey Williams: Major Works, held at October Gallery 7 December 2006 - 10 February 2007.

The exhibition’s invitation card for the Private View of Wednesday 6 December 2006, featured Shostakovich 11th Quartet Opus 122, 1981, oil on canvas, 132 x 203 cm. The exhibition was to be opened by Sandy Nairne, Director, National Portrait Gallery.
