George Lois is an American graphic artist, designer and illustrator, responsible for a memorable body of covers for Esquire magazine during its heyday. His iconic April 1968 Esquire cover featured Muhammad Ali in the guise of St. Sebastian was reproduced in Keith Piper’s ‘Relocating the Remains’ catalogue, the main text of which was written by Kobena Mercer. The chapter in which Lois’ work appears is ‘Anatomies of the Body Politic, Its Central Nervous System: 1991 - 1996’.
